Northmet Riverside F.C

CLUB HISTORY

The first origins of Northmet F.C. can be traced back to 1928. An old cigarette card dated 1936 states that Northmet joined the London League Division 1 in 1933/34 and then won the League title the following year. They entered the F.A. Amateur Cup for the first time in 1936.
Northmet reformed after the war taking on the name Northmet ( Enfield ) F.C. and although details are sketchy, they continued as a Saturday club playing in the Enfield & Tottenham Combination and then the Enfield Alliance League until 1963.
In 1964 they joined the Waltham Sunday League and have continued to compete within this League until the present time. Northmet adopted the current name of Northmet (Riverside) F.C. some time in the 1970’s. They were based at their ground in Turkey Street for many years and despite different owners coming & going, continued to class ‘The Street’ as home until 2005 when the latest owners decided to redevelop the ground. The ground at Turkey Street used to be owned by Eastern Electricity up until its privatisation and eventual sale in the early 1990’s. This link with Eastern Electricity provided a steady stream of players and helped enormously towards the ability to get more than one team out. In fact Northmet managed to operate 3 teams from 1983/84 until 1999/2000 when it had to withdraw its First Team. A Veterans team was set up in1989 which played on Saturdays until 1999/2000.
Various honours have been picked up over the years and are detailed within the Honours section below.
The Club is once again in a healthy position with an injection of young players over the last few seasons Northmet have been able to run 3 teams again. With 3 teams, new players are always welcome and, if reliable, are likely to get a game every Sunday.
A Veterans team was set up in 1989 which played on Saturdays until 1999/2000. The Veterans Team was reformed again in 2003 and during 2004/05 won the VFA Over 35's Challenge Cup although they again folded in 2007.
Various honours have been picked up over the years and are detailed within the Honours section below.
Due to the redevelopment of the Riverside Club at Turkey Street, Northmet's First Team and Reserves relocated to Holtwhites Sports & Social Club in 2004 with the third team now playing at Enfield Playing Fields. The relocation to such fantastic facilities at Holtwhites has been a huge bonus with a near perfect playing surface and superb Clubhouse, the future for Northmet looks bright. With 3 teams, new players are always welcome and, if reliable, are likely to get a game every Sunday
